WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY, OCTOBER 10th 2024

The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health.

The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

At times, it can be obvious when someone is struggling to cope. But sometimes the signs are harder to spot. Check in on those around you.

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY, 2nd APRIL

The United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. This year marks the 17th annual World Autism Awareness Day.

We should focus on providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism and fostering worldwide support. This year, we must committed to acting fearlessly for change. To help create a world in which autistic individuals are fully supported, championed and celebrated, we must all work together to achieve true acceptance.

 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN´S DAY 2023

Are you biased? Are these subconscious biases in everyone´s mind?

This week I conducted this social experiment among my students and teachers in CPIP Castroverde to solve this riddle. The results were shocking. Out of 45 respondents only 3 said the answer was a woman.

Sexist stereotypes and biases are in our subconscious in a little perceptible way.

But without a doubt, the most shocking response was the total silence in the class when they heard the correct answer because they were dismayed and shocked to realize that sexist biases are much more deeply rooted than we think.

We need to continue training in gender equity and equality in order not to reproduce sexist patterns in the next generations.

 GROUNHOG DAY, 2nd FEBRUARY 2023

This morning Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania woke up to see his shadow and then returned to his burrow, which means, according to legend, there will be six more weeks of winter.

According to the legend, if the groudhog doesn´t see its shadow because it´s a cloudy day, it will leave the burrow, which means that winter will end soon. On the contrary, if the groundhog sees the shadow because it´s a sunny day and goes back into the burrow, it means that the winter will last six more weeks.
Unfotunately, the grounhog is often wrong. Since he made his first prediction in 1887, Punxsutaweney Phil has been right 39%  according to Stormfax Weather Almanac.

25TH NOVEMBER, INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.

Since the pandemic began...

45% of women reported that they or a woman they know has experienced a form of VAWG.

7 in 10 women said they think that verbal or physical abuse by a partner has become more common.

6 in 10 felt that sexual harassment in public spaces has worsened.

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devasting human rights in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, and stigma surrounding it.

This violence continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace as well as to the fulfillment of women and girls´ human rights.

On this International Day, the colour orange is used to represent a brighter future, free from violence against women and girls´.

We must educate our students to raise awareness and sensitize them to this problem in order to create a fairer and more balanced future society.
